ASL Class
ASL stands for Additional Support for Learning. If children from P2 to P7 are finding subjects like reading and spelling quite challenging then they are given extra help by Mrs. McColl, the ASL teacher.
P2 crash magnetic letters together and say the sound that they make. They like board games like Vowel Vacation and Dancing with Dinosaurs.

P3 really enjoy the blending game with the cars and Rhyming Rockets on the computer. Stile Tiles are fun and help us with our spelling.

P4 do a lot of spelling and reading. We like to play games that help us to do better at spelling. The Swap game helps us to spell the endings of words. We have just started SOS spelling and it is really exciting. We have to write words and say the sounds in them at the same time.

In Support for Learning class, P5 have been using information books about dinosaurs when they were looking at literal and inferential questions. Board and computer games are good for spelling.
P7 use Stile Tiles and ICT games for spelling. A good website for spelling is www.ictgames.co.uk. DJ Cow’s Wordsearch is good but Blending Bingo is much more fun!!!
All the groups who come to ASL are really excited to see that we now have a new Promethean board in the ASL room. This will be a valuable resource for all IT games and activities and will hopefully be accessible soon.
In ASL classes we have mainly been using www.ictgames.co.uk and doorwayonline.co.uk which are both excellent for spelling activities.
