November – December
This term, as always, we have been very busy.
Literacy
We have continued to develop our interest in reading and writing. We have been doing our letter of the week: every week we work on a different letter and the children will think about words starting with that letter and write words on the writing table.
Everyday we write our snack menu as well as the rota for feeding George, our goldfish.
Numeracy
Advent has been a great opportunity to work on counting on every day. We have used our sticky numbers in the maths area. We can count in English and in Spanish!
Topics
Our main topic has been Dinosaurs. After our visit to the National Museum of Scotland the children were keen to learn about dinosaurs. Following a group discussion we decided to start learning about the Tyrannosaurus Rex. We made our own T- Rex and we looked and found information about it.
We kept our interest in animals with the visit from Zoolab. We were very lucky: we had the opportunity to look at and touch different animals: a frog, a tortoise, a hermit crab, a tarantula, a rat, etc. It was a very interesting experience for children and adults!
Enterprising
For our Christmas Fair we made, with Mrs. Crewe’s special help, Christmas cushions.
We enjoyed choosing the fabrics, counting the nine pieces that we needed and deciding the way we wanted to have the fabrics laid out. We used a sewing machine for the first time.
With the Christmas cushions, lovely chocolates from Rachel’s mum (P1), craft kids made by Atom’s mum and clay Christmas tree decorations we raised £311 for our climbing frame. Thank you for your generosity.

Science
We were very lucky to be awarded with a grant from the Outdoor Play and Active Learning fund. We have decided to use the £500 to develop our numeracy and literacy in our garden as well as build up a sensory garden.
On Monday 12th December the AM children went to Pentland plants and helped to choose different plants: to look at, to touch, to listen, to smell and to taste! We planted them with Mrs Findlay’s help.
Health and Wellbeing
We helped to plant bulbs for Roseburn Park. It was great fun and an excellent experience to feel part of our community. We are looking forward to seeing them growing.
We were very lucky we had a taster session of Taekwondo in the school session. All children enjoyed it.
Expressive arts
We have been busy using different media to create art work: the PM children did bubble painting and the morning children were able to experiment with paint and make pictures following Jackson Pollock’s technique.

Our main focus the last few weeks has been our Nativity play: “Shine star, shine”. We put lots of effort into it: we learned the songs, we practiced our words, we dressed up and most importantly: we performed for all the school and for all our mums and dads. We did a fantastic job. Thank you for coming!
