This term Primary 5 have been working hard on lots of different projects. In ICT we have been learning how to use Microsoft Word to make leaflets. The class worked in pairs to make information booklets about tourist attractions in Scotland. Jemma from primary 5 said she especially enjoyed making the leaflets, as did Hannah, who said, “I enjoyed going onto the computer to find information and pictures|”.
We’ve also been using Microsoft Excel for maths work, using spreadsheets to display information and make calculations. Robbie L. said “I like using Excel because it’s easier to do my sums”.
In writing, the class have produced some fabulous poems, news reports and imaginative stories. Lewis said that he enjoyed writing newspaper reports the most. The children produced two excellent articles; one on Sport Relief, the other on the Introduction of Trams in Edinburgh.
Primary 5 have started their own personal projects this term. The children are enthusiastic about taking on the challenge of finding, organising and displaying information on a topic of their choice. Freya said “I think it will be challenging and fun, all at the same time”. We look forward to seeing the first finished projects after Easter!

We have now finished our personal projects and some of us have given talks on them to the rest of the class.
This term P5 are busy working on a Viking project and we are looking forward to finding out all about the Vikings. We also have lots of great ideas for art work, such as making longboats, helmets, weapons and runes. You can see photos of our pen drawings showing Vikings in battle below and in the class gallery. I think you would have to agree that we have made a really good job of them.

| Some of us posed as Viking models so the rest of the class could observe our body positions and make quick 'life sketches'. | After four 'one minute' sketches, we ticked the one we thought was best and then used our sketches to create a battle scene in pen. |
We have also been looking at the artists – Jean Dubuffet and Piet Mondrian. They used primary colours in their art and we have made our own Dubuffet and Mondrian style pictures which you can see in the class gallery.
