Dance

Two groups from Roseburn participated in the third Dance Fun-Active Schools Dance show at Clermiston Primary on Wednesday 23rd June. Pupils from P3-4 performed to a song from High School Musical and put in an energetic and fun performance, while the P5-7’s danced to ‘Proud Mary’ by Tina Turner. This was the third performance that these groups have delivered this academic year in front of a 200+ crowd. Dance teachers Lindsay (P3-4) and Nicky (P5-7) have worked hard with the classes on a Wednesday lunchtime and Monday afternoon to make sure that the routines were as polished as possible. The kids looked fantastic in their costumes and really lit up the stage with their enthusiasm and commitment. Dance classes are scheduled to continue next year and more children are welcome to come along and learn some new moves!!

Health Week - June 2010

Roseburn have just finished a very successful health week, rounded off in style with sports day! The purpose of the week was to highlight the need for a healthy and active lifestyle and allow the children to take part in some new and exciting activities.

We started off the week with two Olympic sports, Fencing and Volleyball.  The weather was so fantastic that we fenced in the playground and played Volleyball in the park.  We also had our healthy tuck shop with lots of healthy snacks and smoothies made by the children.
On Tuesday P1 and P2 played basketball with Mr Patience, while P5 and P6 tried the paralympic sport of Boccia.  The whole school then made their way to the park where we had lunch together before taking part in the Roseburn Highland Games.  Children participated in the Tug of War, Caber Tossing and the Welly Throw!!  Again we were very lucky with the weather and all the staff were fantastic in keeping all the activities going.

Wednesday brought a little change of pace as the lower stages of the school (including the nursery) enjoyed a session of Yoga with Esme (our Spanish Yoga teacher).  The older children tired their hand at American Football outside in the park with the sessions being delivered by coaches from the Edinburgh Wolves American Football Team.  P7 missed the American Football as they were competing in their own transition sports day at the High School run by Mr Patience and Mr Laurie.  The children were in their new S1 tutor groups for the first time and it was a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends while having fun on another beautiful day. All the classes in the school then had the opportunity to try Cheerleading with Gillian from the Black Diamonds Cheerleading team, who have a class at Craigmount High School.  This was a VERY popular activity with both boys and girls as they practised turns, throws and balancing (with a little bit of dance thrown in!!).  P2 had their own Mango Fandango with children bringing in different types of fruit (and in one instance their fruit bowl!) to share.

Sports day was on Friday and for a change we actually had some good weather!  The infants participated in their own events, including the obstacle race and the sack race while the P4-7's competed in various events that challenged their speed, skill and accuracy!!! Thanks to the PTA who provided snacks and hot drinks.

Thanks to parents and staff for encouraging the children during this week and to the children for trying out new activities with such enthusiasm.  All in all we had a very healthy and entertaining week and we look forward to making every week a healthy and active week at Roseburn.

Roseburn Runs a Mile!

On Monday 22nd March the pupils and staff were challenged to cover a mile in aid of Sports Relief. After a pitch inspection by Mr Patience and Mrs Donaldson following some heavy rain, the park was deemed fit for purpose and the event began. Running and walking were by far the most popular choices but one of our p5 pupils did manage to cartwheel the distance! Well done Molly!

£337.50 was raised for this worthwhile cause! Thank you to all involved!
