Spring Fair!
It’s only one week away until the 8th May. The Spring Fair is at 10.00 next Saturday and the PTA are still looking for enthusiastic helpers for the stalls. It’s going to be a fantastic event with lots of activities for all the family, including a barbecue so come along and join in the fun!
Banner
Well done to Robert Jamieson in Primary 7 for his winning design in the competition organised by the Junior Road Safety Officers. His design is going to be seen on a banner warning drivers of the dangers of double parking outside the school.
Well done Miss Wright!
What a fantastic achievement! Miss Wright managed to run the Edinburgh Half marathon in 2hrs 10mins and wasn’t sure if she’d even finish it! It’ll definitely have to be a marathon next time.
Young Writer’s Award
Well done also to the creative writers in P4 and P5 who were presented with their Young Writer’s Award certificates at Assembly.
Photographs
The school photographer will be in school on Thursday 25th May. This year individual and family photographs will be taken along with all the groups like the Netball Club.
Talent Show
It was great to see just how much real talent we have in Roseburn. From piano playing to telling jokes (pretty awful James!) we showcased lots of budding stars at our talent show last week. Look out ‘Britain’s got Talent’!
Swimming Gala
Our talented swimmers put up a fantastic show at the Edinburgh Schools Relay Gala at Ainslie Park. They were commended for their team spirit and sportsmanship and were a credit to the school.
Results:
Breast Stroke 2nd 1.57.84 Back Stroke 2nd 1.31.67 Freestyle 3rd 1.26.56
Ice Skating
No, this isn’t a picture of Miss Inglis but she had a great time at the Ice Rink when she took her class for an afternoon of fun as a prize for raising over £240 at their stall at the Christmas Fair. You may remember their ‘Pashion for Fashion’ stall selling fantastic knitted goods and tee shirts amongst other things. Well done to the Starbursts!
Reports
Look out for the school reports which will be coming home on 2nd June. These will reflect just how hard the children have been working this year. The subjects are slightly different this year to reflect Curriculum for Excellence with eg. Dance being included in the Expressive Arts but the rest of the disciplines of PE being included in Health and Well-Being.
School Website
Have a look at our exciting new website to see what’s happening in the school. Thanks to our enthusiastic group of parents and teachers the site is now up and running and filling up with new information. Suggestions are always welcome as to how we can improve this.
Thank you!
A massive thank you to all the generous families of Roseburn. Thanks to your wonderful kindness we have raised an amazing amount of money to send to various charities. We raised £337.50 for Comic Relief and £340 for Sports Relief and had an immense amount of fun doing so. Well done to all the boys and girls who ran their mile at Roseburn Park (and some a considerable distance further!) and also thanks to all the parents and grandparents who turned out to support us.
Art Exhibition
Thank you also for helping us to raise £239 at our art exhibition. It was great to see the children’s work displayed in their frames making them look more professional. Next time we will try doing our own framing to make it more affordable so start honing your joinery skills!
School Camp
The P7 ‘Galaxies’ and ‘Starbursts’ are camping this year at Dalguise PGL Centre near Dunkeld. Look out for some daring stories and photos from this fantastic centre which will be posted on the Starburst’s blog.
Dates for your Diary
A reminder that there is an In-service day on Wed 19th May and a new extra In-service day on Wednesday 18th August.
The school will be closed to pupils on 6th May due to the General Election.
The Interscholastics will take place on 1st June and weather permitting, the School Sports will be held in Roseburn Park on 4th June.
Lots of parent helpers are needed for the Roseburn Park ‘Clean Up’ which Mrs Reid has organised for Friday. Just turn up at the school hall at 1.30 ready to do some litter picking!
