PARENTLINE
Children 1st is a registered charity which has over 125 years experience of working with children and families, previously as the Royal Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children (RSSPCC). Children 1st provides services that aim to support families under stress, protect children from harm and neglect, help them to recover from abuse and promote children's rights and interests. One such service that Children 1st provides is the free confidential helpline and email service, ParentLine Scotland.

ParentLine Scotland offers support and help by phone and by email, to any adult worried about a child no matter how big or small the issue.  The helpline provides time and space for adults to talk about their concerns and to get a bit of extra support at a time that suits them while the email service can help those who prefer to write things down rather than pick up the phone.  ParentLine Scotland is also part of the national kinship care service providing help, support and information to grandparents, aunts and uncles and other relatives who find themselves looking after a child in the family when their parents can't.

The free confidential helpline number is 0800 028 2233 and the confidential email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
ParentLine Scotland lines are open from 9am to 5pm on Monday, Wednesday
and Friday; 9am to 10pm on Tuesday and Thursday; and 12 noon to 8pm on
Saturday and Sunday.  Further information can be found by visiting

New Qualifications - Support for Parents and Carers

Have you seen the new parent and carer section of our website?

It has a range of resources, including our new parent and carer leaflet, to help parents and carers to understand the changes to national qualifications.  Our Mythbustervideos answer some of the most common questions.

We have a jargon buster to help explain the terms we are using while developing the qualifications.  We also have a chart which tells you what qualifications young people will study depending on the school year they are in now.

We are publishing draft documents on our website for feedback as we are developing the new qualifications.

We have now published draft Course Assessment Specifications for National 5.  These documents give more detail about how each National 5 Course will be assessed and define the mandatory assessment requirements.

The documents are quite technical and are aimed at teachers and education specialists but we also welcome feedback from parents.  You can give us your comments via Have Your Say – www.sqa.org.uk/haveyoursay.

We have also recently published draft Unit Specifications for Higher.  You can find out more about these documents on our website.  Keep visiting www.sqa.org.uk/cfeforparents for all you need to know about the new qualifications.  Sign up for MyAlertsto receive e-mail updates.
